It’s that time of the year again, Samsung finally announced the new Galaxy S23 Ultra, alongside the S23 and S23+. As usual, the Ultra model remains the top-of-the-line flagship. It may look like the same device as its predecessor, but I was able to spend a short period of time with the phone. Here’s the first look at the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The front of the Galaxy S23 Ultra looks the same as the S22 Ultra, but it feels different when you hold it. It has a less curvy 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate that can be adjusted down to only 1Hz. It’s pretty much the same display panel as its predecessor, but Samsung has added a vision booster that maximizes outdoor visibility and adapts to the user’s lighting conditions at three levels for an easy and comfortable viewing experience.
The back of the phone looks the same as well, it still has that clean camera rings design, which will collect dust around after using it for a short period of time. The front and back of the phone are covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a tougher glass than its predecessor.
In terms of cameras, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a quad-camera setup on the back — 12MP ultra-wide + 200MP main + 10MP 3x telephoto + 10MP 10x telephoto. It has more advanced software algorithms that will improve the overall image quality. It is also capable of recording 8K videos at 30fps and it now has improved image stabilization with Adaptive VDIS and 2x wider OIS. The phone has a 12MP selfie camera, which works better in low light compared to last year’s 40MP selfie camera.
Unlike the S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has less curvy sides, which feel wider and harder to hold. The phone also has an additional microphone hole next to the USB-C port.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be available in four colors — Phantom Black, Green, Cream, and Lavender. Apart from these four colors, there are also four Samsung.com exclusive colors — Graphite, Sky Blue, Red, and Light Green/Lime. Stay tuned for our full review as we will be getting one soon.
