Unboxing
Just like the Galaxy A53, the Galaxy A73 comes in a pretty thin white box. Samsung uses black boxes for its premium flagship devices and white boxes for more affordable ones.
Opening up the box, you’ll see the Galaxy A73 sitting on the top, and there’s a pull tap for you to lift up the phone. The plastic wrap of the phone shows three main features — Super Smooth Display, Quad Camera 108MP with OIS, and IP67 Water & Dust Resistant.
Taking out the phone then you’ll see another box, which has the SIM ejector tool, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and the paperwork.
The unboxing experience is pretty much the same as the Galaxy A53. You don’t get the charging brick now, but Samsung now lets you redeem a 15W charging brick for free with the Samsung Members app before you checkout.
First Impressions
The Samsung Galaxy A73 5G is just a little bit bigger than the A53 (6.7″ vs 6.5″). Other than the difference in sizing, the design is basically the same across both devices.
It sports a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Plus 120Hz display, which is an upgrade over the Super AMOLED panel. The Super AMOLED Plus panel is thinner, brighter, and uses less energy, compared to the Super AMOLED panel.
Unlike the A53, the A73 doesn’t have a silver trim around the 32MP camera cutout. I guess it’s because the phone costs more than RM2k, and it’s not considered affordable anymore.
The Galaxy A73 runs on the latest One UI 4.1 based on Android 12 and Samsung has promised to provide four Android OS upgrades. The amount of pre-installed apps and bloatware is actually quite annoying. Thankfully, you can uninstall or disable all the pre-installed apps if you don’t wish to see them.
The Galaxy A73 has a quad-camera setup on the back — 108MP main with OIS + 12MP ultra-wide + 5MP macro + 5MP depth sensor. Unfortunately, Samsung had removed the telephoto camera from the A72, guess the telephoto camera is now exclusive to the S series devices.
It has a plastic back but the phone does look more premium than its predecessor. One worthy reminder is that Samsung has also eliminated the 3.5mm audio jack from the Galaxy A73.
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is now available in White, Blue, Peach, and Black. The phone is now available at Samsung Online Store, Shopee, and Lazada, retailing at RM2,099. Stay tuned for the full review as we are now in the middle of testing the phone.
