A couple of weeks ago, I unboxed the OPPO Enco Air2, which was launched alongside the Reno7 series not long ago. Without further ado, here’s the full review of OPPO’s latest affordable true wireless earbuds.

Design

The OPPO Enco Air2 has a pretty unique case that comes with a two-tone finish. The translucent lid lets you see inside the case to make sure the earbuds are safe in it. The rest of the case is white plastic with an LED indicator at the front. There’s a single USB-C port at the bottom of the case, pretty simple and minimalist.

The earbuds themselves feature a pretty familiar design with a short stem. Each earbud has a capacitive button for you to access the touch functionality. You can customize each action individually through the settings, or the HeyMelody app if you are not using an OPPO smartphone.

User Experience

As mentioned earlier, if you are not using an OPPO smartphone, you will need the HeyMelody app to customize the touch controls and also the sound profile. Sadly, it seems that the app on iOS doesn’t support the earbuds yet, though an iPhone user would have gone for the AirPods.

If you are using an OPPO smartphone, you can just go to the Bluetooth settings page to customize the earbud functions. OPPO even includes the photo-taking assistance function that allows you to double-tap either earbud to take a photo.

One big complaint here is the OPPO Enco Air2 doesn’t have the function to play/pause music. Nope, the earbuds won’t automatically play/pause when you wear them or take them off since they don’t have the sensor.

Audio Quality

The OPPO Enco Air2 has a pretty impressive audio quality, thanks to the 13.4mm large composite titanized diaphragm drivers. The earbuds have punchy bass with decent mids, but most people will be quite satisfied with the audio quality. The Game Mode works well too, at least good enough, but don’t expect it to have an ultra-low latency.

Battery Life

OPPO claims the earbuds can play music for 4 hours on a single charge, which turns out to be true based on my test. It took 10% for the case to charge both earbuds from 10% to 100%, which means you can charge both earbuds around 10 times with the case. If I calculated it right, that means the OPPO Enco Air2 has around 40 hours of battery life.

Final Words

OPPO Enco Air2 Review_8

Retailing at RM249, the OPPO Enco Air2 is a pretty good pair of wireless earbuds. It comes with basic features that are quite useful for average consumers. Not to forget the earbuds also feature IPX4 water/splashproof, which is an advantage compared to other earbuds at this range.
