Maxis, one of Malaysia’s biggest telcos, today officially launched a 4G smartphone — NeXT M1. It’s really unexpected as we don’t really see a telco company launches a self-branded smartphone.
The NeXT M1 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display, that’s 401ppi pixel density. The device is powered by a MediaTek MT6755M octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. In terms of camera, the phone has a 13MP rear and 5MP front cameras, both cameras are accompanied by an LED flash. Juicing up the device is a 2,960mAh battery, which isn’t removable. The device is running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and the company did mention that the device isn’t upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Maxis NeXT M1 will be available for purchase from 3rd of March onwards in Dark Grey color only. The device is priced at RM78 per month without any upfront payment. For RM78/month, you’ll get 4GB data and 50 minutes calls every month. Additionally, it also comes a 24-month warranty (included 1-to-1 replacement) and a 6-month screen protection.
