Introduction
As the COVID-19 global pandemic is still going on and everyone is advised to stay at home to prevent the widespread of the virus, it is a tough season for all of us. With cinemas now closed, you can actually build your own home cinema. This is the LUMOS AURO, a home cinema short-throw projector that comes with Netflix, YouTube, and built-in speakers. I’ve been having it for more than a month and here’s the full review!

Design
In terms of design, the LUMOS AURO has a rather boxy design with a white matte finishing. The front and back of it have a fabric material, covering the built-in speakers. Just like other projectors, it comes with an adjustable leg. Overall, the project feels pretty solid and durable.
The LUMOS AURO has a wide array of ports available — an SD card slot, two HDMI ports, two USB ports, a VGA port, a LAN port, and two 3.5mm audio jacks (one of them is an audio-video jack).
Projection Quality
The LUMOS AURO can project Full HD resolution with 6,000 lumens of brightness and up to 300-inch. The projection quality generally is quite good. The images and the text are relatively sharp and clear. However, the color may not be that accurate, but it is reasonable at this price range.
Like many projectors, it comes with keystone correction. You can configure the keystone using the knob or via the software. Personally, I will recommend you to use the software to configure for better quality. The projector also has a short throw distance of 1.5m and it is able to project around a 50-inch display, good for those who have a small room.
Speakers
The speakers are surprisingly good for a projector but don’t expect to have a great bass impact like a subwoofer. If you are watching a movie, there is a good amount of clarity on vocals. If you want a better audio experience, just connect your speaker setup to the projector since it has a wide variety of ports. Even better, the Smart Version is Bluetooth-enabled hence you can pair any Bluetooth speakers that you have.
User Experience
The LUMOS AURO runs on Android OS, pretty much the same as many TV boxes that are selling in the market. It comes with pre-installed apps like Netflix and YouTube, two media apps that I use the most nowadays. The interface is pretty straightforward, which shows the inputs, settings, and apps on the homescreen. You can navigate the system using a mouse + keyboard or with the remote control that comes together in the box. In my opinion, I think the whole interface is less responsive, but it’ll work, and sometimes navigating through the mouse won’t work all the time, it’s better for you to use the remote control included.
Of course, you can use it as a regular projector, just connect to the HDMI port then you are good to go. The HDMI ports are able to output display at 1080p with a 60Hz refresh rate. For the Smart Version, you can also cast your content from your phone via AirScreen and MCast. Based on my test, I was able to use the AirScreen app without any problem on both Android, iOS, and Windows, but for some reason, the MCast app wasn’t working.

In conclusion, the LUMOS AURO is a great home cinema projector that is pretty easy to setup. It offers decent viewing and audio experiences, which is all I need to survive this stay-at-home season. I would recommend you to get the Smart + RIZE Stand bundle as you can just set up everything in a room without needing to think about reorganizing your stuff, just plug and play then you are good to go!
