Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga and T480s Hands-On

Just recently, Lenovo Malaysia invited us to join the Lenovo ThinkPad Media Show & Tell event. We were able to have the exclusive Lenovo ThinkPad products hands-on session, specifically the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga, and T480s. In case you didn’t know, Lenovo ThinkPad series emphasizes for the new generation of ‘digital-first’ workers who are always on-the-go. All ThinkPad devices are tested against 12 military-grade requirements to ensure safety and efficiency. Additionally, the new ThinkPad series is enhanced with security and authentication features such as the ThinkShutter camera privacy, anti-spoofing fingerprint technology, and facial recognition.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

The 6th generation X1 Carbon comes with up to the 8th gen Intel Core i7 processor with vPro. The laptop has up to 16GB LPDDR3 RAM and 1TB PCIe SSD. In terms of display, it comes with up to a 14-inch HDR WQHD IPS screen with Dolby Vision. There’s also an optional touch display.

As usual, the screen can actually tilt back 180-degree for versatile viewing. It is actually using an anti-glare matte display, which means it doesn’t have a wide viewing angle.

According to Lenovo, the lid cover of the X1 Carbon is made up of carbon fiber. The lid cover is quite fingerprint magnet and there will be stains after a long-term use.

Even though the laptop doesn’t come with a dedicated NVIDIA graphics, it supports USB-C Thunderbolt 3 for the external graphics card. Additionally, the laptop also comes with a special USB-C docking solution that lets you connect to all your workspace peripherals.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is available online and at all Lenovo exclusive stores (LES) nationwide, retailing from RM6,832.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga

The 3rd generation X1 Yoga is an ultralight 2-in-1 laptop with 4 flexible modes, thanks to its 360-degree hinge.

The backlit keyboard is spill-resistant and the keys retract automatically when not being used as a laptop, so they are not exposed when the keyboard is face-down on a desk or table.

The laptop sports up to a 14-inch HDR WQHD IPS touch display with Dolby Vision. It packs up to the 8th gen Intel Core i7 processor with vPro. Furthermore, the laptop has up to 16GB LPDDR3 RAM and 1TB PCIe SSD.

Since the laptop is designed to use in different modes, including the tablet mode, its power button is located at the right side of the laptop (left when you use it in tablet mode). There’s also a dockable stylus pen that recharges when connected (15 minutes of charging for up to 100 minutes usage).

As mentioned earlier, the X1 Yoga comes in four modes — laptop, stand (as shown in the image above), tent, and tablet.

The laptop also has a SIM slot, so that you can connect to your cellular data in case there’s no Wi-Fi. Like the X1 Carbon, the X1 Yoga also comes with a USB-C Thunderbolt port and a special USB-C docking solution.
