The HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro features a 6.75-inch 1.5K OLED Huawei X-True flat-edged display that delivers sharp visuals and vibrant colors. Thanks to its LTPO panel, the display supports a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, allowing the phone to dynamically adjust the refresh rate depending on the content being displayed. This helps deliver smoother animations while also improving power efficiency when viewing static content. The screen can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even under bright sunlight.

Another interesting highlight is the inclusion of 3D ToF Face Unlock. While many smartphone brands have moved away from advanced facial recognition hardware, Huawei continues to integrate this feature into its flagship devices, providing a secure and convenient unlocking experience. Durability is also a key focus on the Mate 80 Pro, as both the front and rear panels are protected by the second-generation Kunlun Glass, which Huawei claims offers up to 20 times better drop resistance compared to standard smartphone glass. On top of that, the device carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance, providing additional protection against harsh environments.

Design has always been a defining element of the Mate series, and the Mate 80 Pro continues that tradition with Huawei’s Iconic Dual Space Rings design. The circular camera module at the rear stands out prominently, giving the device a distinctive flagship appearance. The smartphone will be available in three color options: Gold, Green, and Black, each offering a premium finish that complements the overall design language.

The camera system is another major highlight of the Mate 80 Pro. The large circular camera module houses Huawei’s second-generation True-to-Color camera system, which consists of a 50MP main wide camera, a 40MP ultra-wide camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera that supports 4x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. During a brief hands-on session, the phone delivered impressive results, with images appearing sharp, detailed, and color-accurate. This is largely aided by the dedicated color temperature sensor, which helps ensure that colors remain natural and consistent across different lighting conditions.

Huawei has also introduced an AI Composition feature to make photography easier for users. This feature uses artificial intelligence to guide users in framing their shots. Once activated, users simply align the dot in the camera interface from the 1x lens and wait for the ring indicator to appear. Holding the phone steady for a few seconds allows the system to capture the image at the best possible angle and composition, making it easier to produce well-framed photos even without professional photography skills.

Under the hood, the Mate 80 Pro is powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9030 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. During hands-on testing, the device felt extremely smooth and responsive, handling multitasking and navigation effortlessly. Interestingly, the units that were demonstrated came preloaded with several Google-based applications. However, it is worth noting that Google Mobile Services has not been officially available on Huawei smartphones since 2019 due to ongoing restrictions, so the availability of such services may vary depending on the device configuration.

Looking at the rear design, another large circular structure sits below the camera module. This is most likely where the wireless charging coil is located. While it resembles the ring structure seen on magnetic charging systems, there does not appear to be any magnets surrounding the ring. The Mate 80 Pro packs a sizable 5,750mAh battery and supports 100W HUAWEI SuperCharge for wired charging, as well as 80W wireless HUAWEI SuperCharge, allowing users to recharge the device quickly.
