Huawei has just officially announced the Mate 9, Mate 9 Porsche Design, and the fitness-aimed smartwatch — Fit. Both devices were just introduced at a dedicated event in Munich, Germany. Perhaps picking Germany to unveil the new flagships was not random, as the company partners with Porsche to come out the limited edition Mate 9 Porsche Design.
Huawei Mate 9
The regular Mate 9 sports a 5.9-inch Full HD IPS display covered by 2.5D glass. Built by metal, the phablet is just 7.5mm thin and weighs at 169g. The device is powered by the company’s latest Kirin 960 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage.
The main highlight of the Mate 9 is the second-generation Leica camera. It’s still a dual-camera setup like the P9, but now with a 20MP f/2.2 monochrome and 12MP f/2.2 RGB sensors. Those two shooters now are enhanced by OIS, and there’s a new 4-in-1 hybrid autofocus that includes laser, phase-detect, depth, and contrast detection. The camera also supports a new Hybrid Zoom feature, which allows you to zoom without (significant) loss of quality.
For the first time in a Huawei flagship, the Mate 9 is capable of 4K video recording. Let’s not forget that it has an 8MP front-facing camera with f/1.9 aperture and autofocus.
The Huawei Mate 9 has a 4,000mAh battery with SuperCharge technology charged by a 5A charger. The device is running on EMUI 5.0 on top of Android 7.0 Nougat. It will launch in six colors — Space Gray, Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Mocha Brown, Ceramic White, and Black. Thankfully, Malaysia will be one of the first wave countries to get the device.
Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design
The Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design is a limited edition device, which the company partners two legendary German brands — Porsche and Leica. The device has a smaller 5.5-inch display, but it has two curved sides and a higher resolution at QHD with AMOLED panel.
Other specs are pretty similar to the regular Mate 9 besides it has more RAM and storage (6GB/256GB) — Kirin 960 processor, 20MP monochrome + 12MP RGB sensors with hybrid autofocus and Hybrid Zoom feature, 4,000mAh battery with SuperCharge technology, and EMUI 5.0 on top of Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design will be available in the European Porsche Design Stores starting in late December. It is really a premium device pricing at €1,395. The phone will be available in Porsche Design Stores worldwide (aside from the US) and select Huawei stores in Asia, the Middle East and Europe, but that will be in January next year.
Huawei Fit
The Huawei Fit is a fitness-aimed wearable smartwatch. It supports multiple forms of exercise including walking, running, cycling, swimming and treadmill workouts, with different modes monitoring different data.
The watch features an aluminum alloy body weighing at 35g. It has a 1.04-inch LCD display with the resolution of 208 x 208 pixels. The watch is IP68 water and dust resistance along with 5ATM (atmospheres) protection.
It has a heart rate sensor as well, which delivers accurate heart rate measurements thanks to an innovative design and high-signal strength.
Paired with the Huawei Wear app for Android or iOS, users can review a daily heart rate curve that captures minimum and maximum rates as well as resting heart rate. It can also provide an exercise assessment based on heart rate statistics over time.
Huawei claims that the Fit wearable device boasts a powerful battery that lasts for six days with normal use. It is supported by Bluetooth 4.2 and syncs to users’ smartphones to enable alerts on incoming calls and messages.
The Huawei Fit will be available in Titanium Gray and Moonlight Silver in the U.S.; in late November, the HUAWEI FIT will be available in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
