Announced last month, HTC officially launched two new U smartphones in Malaysia — the U Ultra and U Play. Both devices feature a brand new design with the “liquid surface” back.
HTC U Ultra
The U Ultra is the latest flagship from the company, which sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD 5 display with a secondary display (2-inch, 160×1040) on top, just like the LG V20. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage.
In terms of camera, the device has a 12MP UltraPixel 2 camera with 1.55μm pixel behind a f/1.8 aperture lens with OIS. Additionally, there’s also PDAF tech and laser autofocus for faster focusing speed. Selfie wise, there’s a 16MP front-facing unit with UltraPixel mode.
The U Ultra also has the BoomSound Hi-Fi edition speakers with separated sound design, similar to the HTC 10. The device also features four omnidirectional mics for you to record 360-degree audio. Gone is the 3.5mm audio jack but the device features HTC USonic technology, which analyzes your inner ears with a sonar-like pulse, and then adapts to you.
HTC U Play
As for the HTC U Play, it shares the same features from the U Ultra — no audio jack, HTC USonic technology, and a 16MP front camera with UltraPixel mode.
The device, however, has a smaller 5.2-inch Full HD Super LCD display and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage. It also has a 16MP f/2.0 rear camera with PDAF tech and OIS.
