It’s finally happening! Google announced the new Pixel 9 series smartphones, which will be officially available in Malaysia! The latest Pixel 9 series consists of four devices — Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. These phones come with 7 years of software update support together with AI features.
Pixel 9
The Pixel 9 is the base model in the series, it sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate with a peak brightness of 2,700 nits. Underneath the screen is the new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is more reliable and accurate compared to the optical fingerprint sensor from last year’s model.
Powering the phone is the new Tensor G4 processor that features one prime Cortex-X4 core, plus three A720, and four A520 cores. The phone comes with 12GB of RAM with two storage options — 128GB and 256GB. The vanilla model sticks to the classic dual-camera setup, featuring a 50MP main camera same as last year and an upgraded 48MP ultra-wide lens. The punch-holed selfie camera on the front is almost the same as before with a 10.5MP Samsung sensor though now with an autofocus lens.
The phone packs a 4,700mAh battery that can reach 55% in 30 minutes using a 45W USB-PD charger. Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t support the latest Qi2 wireless charging, you still get the Qi-certified wireless charging though.
The phone is available in Porcelain, Peony, Wintergreen, and Obsidian. The mid-frame is made of aluminum, while the front and back are Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The phone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance.
Pixel 9 Pro & Pixel 9 Pro XL
The Pro variant comes in two sizes — a compact size and an XL. The Pixel 9 Pro has a 6.3-inch 1280p LTPO OLED display, while the XL variant has a 6.8-inch 1344p LTPO OLED display. Both screens have a peak brightness of 3,000 nits with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and a flat Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on top. Like the vanilla model, both phones also come with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor underneath the screen.
Powering both phones is the latest Tensor G4 chip with 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. They both come with a triple-camera setup on the back — a 50MP 1/1.31″ wide-angle main camera and a pair of 48MP 1/2.55″ cameras for the ultra-wide and 5x telephoto zoom. All rear cameras are aided with Multi-zone LDAF (laser-assisted focus). The front has been upgraded to a 42MP selfie camera for the Pros.
The Pixel 9 Pro features a 4,700mAh battery, while the XL model has a 5,060mAh battery. Both phones support 45W wired charging with 70% charge taking 30 minutes.
The Pro models come in four colors — Obsidian, Hazel, Rose Quartz, and Porcelain.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Here comes the fourth model in the series — Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is a far more refined foldable than the first-gen Pixel Fold. The Fold measures 10.5mm folded and a mere 5.1mm when unfolded, the weight is only 257g. Google has also included an IPX8 water-resistant rating for its latest foldable.
The new Pixel 9 Pro Fold packs a 6.3-inch cover screen, the same as the vanilla Pixel 9, and an 8-inch folding screen. Both are OLEDs with Full HD+ resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 2,700 nits of peak brightness. The two panels also share the same 10MP cutout selfie camera.
The Fold packs a triple-camera setup — 48MP main + 10.5MP 5x telephoto + 12MP ultra-wide, which is quite similar to the Pixel 8 Pro. It is also powered by the latest Tensor G4 chip with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
The device packs a 4,650mAh battery with 21W fast wired charging. According to Google, it will also get 7 years of software updates. The foldable will be available in two colors — Porcelain and Obsidian.
Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2
Additionally, Google also announced the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. The Pixel Watch 3 is the search giant’s latest smartwatch that features a round display in 41mm and 45mm sizes. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 is a pair of high-end earbuds with a Tensor A1 chip and “ultra-low-latency audio processing” for ANC that’s twice as good as before.

Unfortunately, not all Pixel 9 series devices will be available in Malaysia. Google has already set up the official Pixel store on Shopee and Lazada:
