The Pixel 9a shares the same design aesthetic as its Pixel 9 series counterparts. It features a front panel of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with flat edges that connect to a flat aluminum frame. The back is adorned with a flat polycarbonate panel, giving the phone a sleek, slab-like appearance. This marks a significant shift from the curved edges of its predecessor, the Pixel 8a. Additionally, the phone now boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Pixel 9a sports a slightly larger 6.3-inch pOLED display with a resolution of 2,424×1,080 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The new screen can achieve 1,800 nits of brightness for HDR content (measured at 100% display area) and up to 2,700 nits of peak brightness (measured at 5% display area). While the display supports HDR, it is limited to 8-bit color depth. It also includes an optical fingerprint sensor.

Powered by the new Google Tensor G4 chip and the Titan M2 security coprocessor, the Pixel 9a comes standard with 8GB of RAM and offers a choice between 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

The camera system has also been revamped. The previous 64MP sensor found in the Pixel 7a and 8a has been replaced with a 48MP f/1.7 camera featuring Quad PD Dual Pixel AF and OIS, capable of recording 4K video at up to 60fps. The ultra-wide camera remains the same 13MP f/2.2 unit as before, and the front-facing 13MP camera from the Pixel 8a has been retained, still limited to 4K video at 30fps.

However, the Pixel 9a introduces a few new photography features. It is the first A-series phone to include a Macro Focus option, allowing for detailed close-up shots, and it also debuts Google’s Astrophotography feature in the A-series.

The Pixel 9a is equipped with a larger 5,100mAh Li-Ion battery, promising over 30 hours of battery life. It supports “fast” wired charging at 23W and includes Qi-wireless charging capabilities.

Running Android 15 out of the box, the Pixel 9a comes with all of Google’s latest AI features. Like other Pixel devices, it will receive seven years of OS and security updates from its launch date.
