Apple has officially announced the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, bringing a fresh design and a host of upgrades to its flagship Pro lineup. For the first time since titanium debuted, Apple has moved to a brushed aluminium unibody design, crafted from aerospace-grade 7000-series aluminium alloy. According to Apple, this shift not only reduces weight but also delivers the best thermal performance ever in an iPhone, offering up to 40% better sustained performance compared to titanium.

Both models feature Ceramic Shield glass on the front and back, with the new Ceramic Shield 2 protecting the display. Apple claims it’s 3x more scratch-resistant and 4x tougher against cracks. The screen glass now has a 7-layer anti-reflective coating, reducing glare much like Samsung’s recent Ultra phones.

The iPhone 17 Pro sports a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display, while the Pro Max stretches to 6.9 inches. Both use ProMotion adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz and reach 3,000 nits of peak brightness, making them Apple’s brightest iPhone displays yet.

Under the hood is the 3nm Apple A19 chip, featuring a 6-core CPU and a 6-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing. A new Apple-designed vapor chamber finally arrives on the Pro models, improving cooling during intensive workloads. The 16-core Neural Engine powers Apple Intelligence features, while the new Apple N1 networking chip brings Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support.

Battery life also gets a boost, thanks to the redesigned chassis that allows for larger batteries. Apple says the Pro models now last 2 hours longer in video playback than their predecessors, reaching up to 39 hours on a single charge.

Photography remains a highlight. Both Pro models feature a triple 48MP Fusion camera setup with wide (26mm), ultrawide (13mm), and telephoto (100mm) lenses. The new telephoto offers 4x optical zoom and up to 8x (200mm) digital zoom. For selfies, a new 18MP Center Stage front camera automatically adjusts its field of view and keeps subjects centered during videos.

For video creators, Apple has added ProRes RAW, Log 2, and genlock support, enabling syncing across multiple cameras. These upgrades integrate seamlessly with Final Cut Camera 2.0 and Blackmagic Camera, complementing existing ProRes Log, Dolby Vision HDR, and 4K 120fps recording capabilities. Both devices ship with iOS 26, highlighted by Liquid Glass, Apple’s new expressive UI design language.
