Besides the vanilla iPhone 15 models, Apple also unveiled the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which now feature a USB-C port and a strong and lightweight titanium design.

The new Pros now support USB 3.0 for data transfer speeds up to 10 gigabits per second, up to 20x faster than before. Apple has also replaced the stainless steel frames with titanium, making both phones now the lightest Pro models ever. The grade 5 titanium frames feature a new refined brush texture and contoured edges.

The iconic mute switch is now replaced by the Action button. A press-and-hold will put the phone in silent by default, but you can choose from a set of actions on a press or double press for even more convenience and versatility.

Available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes, Apple managed to shrink the overall dimensions of the phones despite keeping the same display sizes as last year, all thanks to the thinner bezels. In fact, both Pros now have the thinnest bezels ever on an iPhone. Both phones feature a Super Retina XDR OLED display with an adaptive 120Hz (ProMotion) refresh rate, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits.

Powering the Pro models is the A17 Pro chipset, which is the first chipset to build on a 3nm process. The new CPU is up to 10% faster with microarchitectural and design improvements, and the Neural Engine is now up to 2x faster, powering features like autocorrect and Personal Voice in iOS 17. The pro-class GPU is up to 20% faster and unlocks entirely new experiences, featuring a new 6-core design that increases peak performance and energy efficiency.

The A17 Pro chipset also includes a dedicated AV1 decoder, enabling more efficient, high-quality video experiences for streaming services. Additionally, a new USB controller enables USB 3.0 speeds on iPhone for the first time, now supporting much higher transfer speeds and video output up to 4K at 60 fps HDR.

Both phones now feature a new 48MP main camera, which has a bigger sensor with 1.22µm pre-binned pixels and second-generation sensor-shift stabilization. The lens is a 24mm f/1.78. You can now capture 48MP HEIF images alongside 48MP ProRAW. The new sensor also allows for 28mm, 35mm, and 48mm digital zoom modes and the iPhone will let you pick one of these focal lengths as your default setting. The main camera now shoots 24MP photos by default.

For the first time, the iPhone 15 Pro Max features a periscope camera, offering up to 5x optical zoom or 120mm in 35mm equivalent terms. The new lens comes with a combined optical image stabilization and autofocus 3D sensor-shift module, Apple’s most advanced stabilization system yet. As for the regular Pro model, it still has a 3x telephoto lens.
