Apple has quietly refreshed its premium over-ear headphones with the new AirPods Max 2, bringing a notable internal upgrade while keeping the familiar design intact.

The biggest change comes in the form of the new Apple H2 chip, which powers improved active noise cancellation (ANC). According to Apple, the updated model delivers up to 1.5x more effective noise cancelling compared to the previous generation, making it better at blocking out ambient noise in busy environments.
With the H2 chip, the AirPods Max 2 also gain a suite of smarter audio features. This includes Adaptive Audio, which dynamically adjusts noise control based on your surroundings, as well as Conversation Awareness that automatically lowers playback volume when the headphones detect someone speaking to you nearby. Apple is also introducing a new Live Translation feature, adding another layer of utility for users who frequently travel or communicate across languages.
Connectivity has also been updated, with support for Bluetooth 5.3 for improved stability and efficiency. Apple has paired this with a new high-dynamic range amplifier, which is said to deliver cleaner and more detailed audio output across different genres.
Interestingly, Apple has also added a camera remote function, allowing users to use the Digital Crown on the headphones as a shutter button when connected to their device. It’s a small but practical addition, especially for those who take group photos or shoot content remotely.

Despite these upgrades, the overall design remains unchanged from the original AirPods Max released back in 2020. That means you still get the same premium build quality and signature look that Apple’s over-ear headphones are known for.
Battery life also stays the same, with up to 20 hours of usage with ANC enabled. Charging is now handled via USB-C, which also doubles as a wired audio input for 24-bit, 48kHz lossless playback—something audiophiles will appreciate.
The AirPods Max 2 are available in a range of colors, including Midnight, Starlight, Orange, Purple, and Blue, giving users more options to match their personal style. In Malaysia, the headphones are priced at RM2,299. Check back later for availability in Malaysia here.
