Apart from iOS 16 and watchOS 9, Apple also unveiled macOS Ventura which will come to Mac computers in the Fall at WWDC22. The latest version comes with some new features including Stage Manager, Continuity Camera, and more.
Stage Manager is an overhaul of Mission Control, which automatically organizes open apps and windows so users can concentrate on their work and still see everything in a single glance. It keeps your currently-opened app in focus and other open windows appear on the left-hand side. You can also group windows together when working on specific tasks or projects that require different apps.
Next up, the Continuity Camera feature now lets you use your iPhone as a webcam. The Mac can automatically recognize and use the camera on iPhone when it is nearby. It delivers innovative features to all Mac computers including Centre Stage, Portrait mode, and the new Studio Light. It also taps into the iPhone’s ultra-wide camera to enable Desk View.
Additionally, macOS Ventura also allows FaceTime Handoff so you can now start a FaceTime call on one Apple device and seamlessly transfer it to another Apple device nearby.
Spotlight has just gotten better and smarter. It features Quick Look for quickly previewing files. You can also find images in your photo library by location, people, scenes, or objects. Live Text allows Spotlight to search for text within a photo.
Just like iOS 16, macOS Ventura is also getting iCloud Shared Photo Library. You can now create and share a separate photo library among up to six family members, so everyone can enjoy all of their family photos.
Passkeys are unique digital keys that stay on the device and are never stored on a web server, so hackers can’t leak them or trick users into sharing them. Passkeys make it simple to sign-in securely, using Touch ID or Face ID for biometric verification, and iCloud Keychain to sync across Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV with end-to-end encryption.
Apple has also announced Metal 3 with MetalFX Upscaling which enables developers to quickly render complex scenes by using less compute-intensive frames, and then apply resolution scaling and temporal anti-aliasing.
The developer beta of macOS Ventura is available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today. A public beta will be available to Mac users next month at beta.apple.com. macOS Ventura will be available this fall as a free software update.
