The new iPad Pro is here! Apple has announced the 2024 edition iPad Pro, featuring two sizes — 11 and 13 inches. The new models now pack an OLED display instead of mini-LEDs, which Apple calls tandem OLED that uses two OLED panels and combines the light from both to provide phenomenal full-screen brightness. Apple promises up to 1,000 nits brightness for SDR content and up to 1,600 nits for HDR.
The ProMotion displays offer dynamic frame rate adjustment, ranging from as low as 10Hz to as high as 120Hz, ensuring smooth visuals in various usage scenarios. Both display variants boast a pixel density of 264ppi, translating to a resolution of 2,420 x 1,668 pixels for the 11-inch model and 2,752 x 2,064 pixels for the 13-inch variant.
Optionally, users can opt for protective glass with a nano-texture finish, designed to minimize glare and scatter less ambient light. It’s worth noting that this feature comes at an additional cost and is exclusively available for the 1TB and 2TB models.
The new iPad Pro is powered by Apple’s latest M4 chip, an interesting move by the Cupertino company since the chipset made its debut on an iPad instead of MacBooks. Built on a second-generation 3nm node, the M4 CPU boasts a 1.5x speed improvement over its predecessor, the M2. Graphics-intensive tasks can experience an impressive 4x boost in performance. Notably, efficiency is doubled, with the M4 capable of delivering equivalent performance to the M2 found in the 2022 iPad Pros while consuming only half the power.
Apple has introduced several new AI-powered features for applications like Final Cut Pro, which are fully supported by the M4 processor. This new chip promises up to 38 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second), showcasing Apple’s commitment to enhancing computational performance. For comparison, the Snapdragon X Elite offers a slightly higher performance ceiling at 45 TOPS.
The 2024 iPad Pros are the thinnest Apple products ever — the 11-inch model is 5.3mm and the 13-inch one is even thinner at 5.1mm. The aluminum bodies of the iPads (available in Silver and Space Black) are made out of 100%recycled materials.
Apple also introduced a new Apple Pencil Pro, which has a new sensor. The stylus now has the ability to detect the pressure applied when squeezed, enabling users to trigger actions such as swiftly changing tool settings while drawing. Squeeze gestures will be confirmed through a custom haptic engine, providing tactile feedback for enhanced user interaction.
Additionally, the Pencil Pro integrates with the Find My network, allowing users to locate it in case of misplacement or loss. This added functionality provides peace of mind and ensures that the stylus remains easily retrievable whenever needed.
The all-new Magic Keyboard is thinner and lighter, matching the more slender design of the new Pro tablets. The keyboard now includes a function row and has a larger trackpad. There’s also a new Smart Folio that attaches magnetically to the tablet if you don’t need a full keyboard.
The 2024 iPad Pro is available in silver and space black. The 11-inch model retails from RM5,299 in 256GB Wi-Fi trim. As for the 13-inch model, its price starts at RM6,799 in 256GB Wi-Fi trim. For the nano-texture glass, the 11-inch model is priced from RM8,799 in 1TB Wi-Fi trim, while the 13-inch model is priced from RM10,299 in 1TB Wi-Fi trim.
