It’s almost a year since the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were announced, which means it’s time for the new iPhones. As expected Apple announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for this year, which are now powered by Apple A10 Fusion chipset.
The Apple A10 Fusion chipset is a 64-bit quad-core processor — two high performance cores and two high-efficiency cores. Apple claims that the new chipset is able to run console-level games such as F1 2016, as well as software like Adobe Lightroom.
For the first time, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are IP67 water and dust resistant, and both don’t have a headphones jack. The home button has been redesigned, making it force sensitive, like the Force Touch trackpads used in recent MacBook laptops.
Camera wise, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have f/1.8 aperture and OIS. The iPhone 7 has a single 12MP camera, while the iPhone 7 Plus has two 12MP cameras. One of it is a wide-angle lens, and another one is a 56mm telephoto lens, which supports 2x optical zoom. The iPhone 7 Plus cameras are able to capture photos with shallow depth of field as well. Both models also have quad-LED True Tone flash. Additionally, both models are now able to take RAW photos. Selfie wise, both models have a 7MP HD FaceTime camera.
Both iPhones now have 25% brighter Retina HD displays and wider color gamuts than the 6s and 6s Plus. Both include the 3D Touch pressure sensitive display that debuted with the 6s line. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch 720p display, while the iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch 1080p display.
Both iPhones now feature stereo speakers, one on the top and another one on the bottom. As we mentioned above, both iPhones don’t have a headphones jack. Hence, Apple has announced a brand new EarPods with Lightning connector. Apple states that the Lightning to 3.5mm jack adapter will also include in the box.
If you think that it’s inconvenient at all, Apple has also announced the AirPods. The AirPods is a wireless earphones from the company, which can be connected to all Apple devices.
Battery life wise, Apple claims that the iPhone 7 has the longest battery life in an iPhone.
Both iPhones come in 5 colors — Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Black and Jet Black, with few variants — 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. Apple also upgraded the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus with 32GB and 128GB storage options.
The new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available from 16th September onwards. However, Malaysia is likely not one of the first wave countries to get the devices, judging from the past.
