MWC 2016: Xiaomi lifts lid on its latest and greatest, the Mi 4S

Xiaomi’s Mi 4 series still has some life in it apparently. The Chinese company has unveiled yet another addition to the family in the form of Mi 4S in a special launch event at Beijing.

With a chassis that is made from both metal and glass, the Mi 4S runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and features a 5-inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) display. It also contains 3 GB of dual-channel LPDDR3 RAM, and 64 GB eMMC 5.0 internal storage with support for MicroSD card.

Photography-wise, the Mi 4S comes with a 13 MP rear camera that also features 5-element f/2.0 lens and phase detection auto-focus tech together with 1080p and 120 fps slow motion video recording capability. There is also a 5-megapixels selfie snapper with f/2.0 85-degree wide angle lens.

Another interesting aspect of the new Mi 4S is that it also comes with the much awaited fingerprint scanner on its back which at this point is the thing to have among smartphone manufacturers these days. The scanner is apparently protected with hardware-based ARM TrustZone security tech.

Built with infrared module which allows the new Mi 4S to be used as remote control, the phones also supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi network with the help of MU-MIMO technology which has been implemented into it. It also supports LTE Cat 9 alongside VoLTE.

The new smartphone also comes with USB Type-C port and the support for 9V/1.2A Quick Charge 2.0 technology. To round up its hardware package, there’s a 3,260 mAh battery within the new Mi 4s.

Priced at CNY 1,699 (about RM 1,100), the new Mi 4S will be released in China on 1st of March 2016. Curiously, the Mi 4S was not mentioned at all at Xiaomi’s MWC 2016 press event which may indicate that this particular model is a China exclusive model at the time being.
