Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 are now official

After being heavily rumored in the past week, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Tab S2. This new tablet offering comes in 2 different flavors, having both an 8-inch and a 9-inch variants.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 80

Samsung’s CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division J.K. Shin has said that “The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features,” . He also states that “We believe the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere.”

The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is running an octa-core processor (quad 1.9 GHz + quad 1.3 GHz) under its hood, and also sports an 8-inch Super AMOLED display with 2,048 x 1,536 pixels resolution. This should give it quite a clear and smooth experience when watching movies or playing mobile games. It arrives with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB expandable internal memory options, and is fitted with a decently large 4,000 mAh battery.

Now for the photography enthusiasts, the Tab S2 8.0 features an 8 MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front shooter. Personally I would say that the selfie snapper is a bit underwhelming while the main camera is nothing special at 8 MP.  The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 weighs in at 265 g and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of its box.

Now for its larger counterpart, the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 sports a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display and packs in a 5,870 mAh battery, thus giving it the necessary grunt and battery power to run the bigger screen. It weighs in at 389 g, which makes it a whole 124 g heavier than the S2 8.0. The remaining specifications are identical to that of the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0. Both variants are available in a Wi-Fi only configuration or Wi-Fi and LTE configurations, both also come with a touch-enabled Fingerprint Scanner, and offer Multitasking.

While there has not been word on pricing as of yet, the South Korean company has announced that the Galaxy Tab S2 would be available for purchase next month.
