Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ Officially Announced

Today is the day! Samsung has just officially announced the brand new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the brand new flagships with similar design language, yet having a bezel-less design.

Both Galaxy S8 and S8+ sport a QHD+ (1,440×2,960) Super AMOLED display with the aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and rounded corners. The S8’s display is 5.8-inch big, while the S8+ is 6.2-inch big. HDR10 is supported on both phones as well, the company even partnered with Amazon to bring HDR capable content. Additionally, this is also the first Ultra Dynamic Range certified screen. Gone are the hardware controls below the display and replaced by pressure-sensitive on screen buttons, which also means that the fingerprint sensor is no longer on the front now.

Powering both devices are either the Qualcomm Snapdragon or Exynos 8895 chipset, both are 10nm processes by the way. Backing up both devices are 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, not to forget that there’s also a UFS/MicroSD hybrid card slot for storage expansion. There’s also a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model, but it is likely to be available in China and Korea only.

In terms of camera, both S8 and S8+ have the same 12MP Dual Pixel f/1.7 camera from the S7/S7 edge, but with improved software such as capturing multiple exposures to raise image quality. As for the selfie duty, Samsung has upgraded its front camera to an 8MP f/1.7 sensor and autofocus with clever face detection.

Juicing up the Galaxy S8 is a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S8+ has a bigger 3,500mAh battery. Both devices support fast charging on wired and wireless (wireless charging compatible with WPC and PMA).

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are running on Android 7.0 Nougat with redesigned interface. Both devices are still IP68 water and dust resistance.
