MWC 2016: LG G5 is the first ever modular smartphone

LG officially announced the G5, which is the latest flagship device from the company. The G5 is the first modular smartphone as it comes with metal unibody design featuring a Slide-out Battery and a Modular Type design.

The G5 sports a 5.3-inch QHD IPS Quantum display, which comes with Always-on feature. Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB expandable storage.

Camera wise, the G5 has two cameras on the back – 16 MP (78-degree lens) and 8 MP (135-degree wide angle lens). The front-facing camera is an 8 MP unit as well.

As the G5 is the first modular smartphone, the device does come with several add-ons.

The LG CAM Plus is a camera grip, which adds 1,100 mAh battery and hardware controls – a hardware shutter key, a video button, zoom dial.

LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY

The LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play is a portable Hi-Fi DAC audio player. It supports 32-bit 384 KHz high-definition audio playback. The LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY can be used either as a module with the LG G5 or as a separate Hi-Fi DAC by connecting to any smartphone or PC.

According to LG, the company will open the standard for third-party manufacturers to create even more add-ons.

Besides the G5, LG also unveiled a wide range of companion devices, LG Friends.
