Huawei Mate 20 Series Available in Malaysia

The Huawei Mate 20 series recently got unveiled in London, UK. This latest phone will be the “industry’s most powerful and sophisticated process technology as well as to set a new bar all other flagship phones to be measured” according to Huawei.

The new phone will be powered by the new Kirin 980 – a system on chip (SoC) which was developed by Huawei combined with the powerful Cortex-A76 based CPU and Mali-G76 GPU, the Kirin 980 offers improved performance and an unprecedented smooth user experience. The phone also comes with 40W Huawei Supercharge, 15W Huawei Wireless Quick Charge, and large batteries to work in tandem to provide users with the best battery life.
As for the camera, the phone comes equipped with the Matrix Camera System which includes Leica Ultra-Wide Lens that lets users not only see wider but also closer to its new macro distance capability. The Matrix Camera System is a four-dot layout which is distinctively Mate 20.

The phone is available in 3 sizes – 6.5-inch, 6.4-inch, and 7.2-inch. The Mate 20 Series encompasses the Mate20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, and Porsche Design Mate 20 RS.

Specifications and Performance

The Kirin 980 is manufactured with the cutting-edge 7nm technology process, the SoC fits 6.9 billion transistors within a die the size of a fingernail. Compared to the previous chipset – Kirin 970, the 980 is equipped with both CPU and GPU which were substantially more powerful and more efficient. Huawei’s innovatively designed three-tier architecture consists of two ultra-large cores, two large cores, and four small cores; which grants the CPU flexibility to allocate the optimal amount of resources to heavy, medium and light tasks for unprecedented levels of efficiency, simultaneously improving the performance of the SoC while enhancing battery life.

The Mate 20 Pro is the world’s first smartphone to support 4.5G LTE Cat. Standard, which allows consumers to experience download speeds up to 1.4Gbps. It also supports dual-band (L1+L5) GPS positioning technology; The AI GPS Satellite Selection technology enhances the positioning accuracy across a wide range of scenarios.
Moreover, the Mate 20 Pro supports 15W Wireless Quick Charge and Wireless Reverse Charge, which enables the device to work as a power bank for selected electronic devices supporting wireless charging. The batteries are large, high density 4200mAh batteries and supports Supercharge by Huawei, which gives the device 70% charge in 30 minutes and is certified by TÜV Rheinland.

Matrix Camera System

Huawei had augmented their lenses with a 16mm Leica Ultra Wide-Angle Lens that can give a wider perspective and a provide a sense of depth. The new camera system also supports macro distance, producing crisp images of objects that are placed as close as 2.5cm from the lens. The ultra wide-angle lens and macro supports makes this phone a truly all-rounded camera for any scenario. The Mate 20 Pro is equipped with a 40MP main camera, a 20MP ultra wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera; when combined able to mimic the results from professional cameras.

The Mate 20 Series also features AI Portrait Color Video mode. Using AI, the Mate 20 can isolate human subjects and desaturate the colors around them to dramatically highlight the person whereas the AI Spotlight Reel identifies clips with a shared theme and auto-generates a montage, made entirely of highlights.
Only the Mate 20 Pro and Porsche Design Mate 20 RS support 3D Face Unlock. The solution quickly and securely authenticates the users within milliseconds at a false acceptance rate of below 1/1,000,000. A 3D Depth Sensing Camera System is located at the front of the phone, besides face unlock, it can also beautify portrait by enhancing pictures is a more effective and natural way.

Look and Design

All Mate 20 variants will carry a Full View Display with a high screen-to-body ratio. Compactly engineered, every device from the 6.4″ Mate 20 Pro to the 7.2″ Mate 20 X can be comfortably used with one hand. The Mate 20 Pro’s chassis is curved on all eight sides for a more aesthetically pleasing look and feel. The Porsche Design Mate 20 RS was Huawei’s collaboration with Porsche Design, combining race track elements with premium materials to create a device that exudes elegance and offers a firm, ergonomic grip.

Pricing and Availability

The new Huawei Mate 20 series will go on sale together with the Huawei MateBook D, MateBook X Pro, Watch GT, and TalkBand B5. The prices are:

• Huawei Mate 20: RM2,799 (Available from 27th October 2018)
• Huawei Mate 20 Pro: RM3,599 (Available from 27th October 2018)
• Huawei Mate 20 X: RM3,199 (Available from 11th November 2018)

Unfortunately, no news regarding the availability of the Porsche Design Mate 20 RS.
