MWC 2017: Huawei Announces P10 and P10 Plus

The wait is over! Huawei has just officially announced the P10 and P10 Plus at MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. Both P10 and P10 Plus feature striking new colors and finishes, as well as the new Leica Dual-Camera 2.0 Pro Edition with cutting-edge portrait features and a Leica front camera for outstanding selfies.

According to Huawei, the new P10 series is a beautifully designed masterpiece on the inside and out. The company’s design team introduced the industry’s first hyper diamond-cut finishing for smartphones, in addition to its refined sandblast and high gloss finishes.

The company also partnered with Pantone Color Institute to create two new colors — Dazzling Blue and the Pantone Color of the Year 2017, Greenery. Both colors were designed by Pantone Color Institute and optimized by Huawei to create a beautiful, glow-effect finish.

The P10 sports a 5.1-inch Full HD IPS display, while the P10 Plus has a 5.5-inch QHD IPS display. Both have a pretty narrow bezel and are covered by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Below the display, there’s a fingerprint sensor, which is hidden under the seamless glass. The fingerprint sensor replaces the navigation bar (short tap for Back, long tap for Home, and swipe for task switcher) making the screen view bigger, while also making smart touch faster and more ergonomic.

Powering both devices is the company’s own Kirin 960 processor with 4GB RAM for the P10 and 4GB or 6GB RAM for the P10 Plus. Huawei claims that the CPU is able to deliver the best multicore performance compared to its rivals, and the GPU boasts an 180% improvement in performance and a 40% increase in power efficiency.

The camera is the main highlight of the new P10 series. Huawei once again partnered with Leica Camera AG to introduce the new Leica Dual-Camera 2.0 Pro Edition, which features the rear dual-camera setup — 20MP f/2.2 monochrome + 12MP f/2.2 RGB sensors (20MP f/1.8 monochrome + 12MP f/1.8 RGB sensors for P10 Plus), and a Leica 8MP f/1.9 front-facing camera.

The new Leica Dual-Camera 2.0 Pro Edition now comes with a few portrait features like the precise 3D facial detection technology for a quicker and more accurate feature recognition. There’s also an auto-sensing algorithm that tracks environmental lighting changes and automatically adjusts the shooting configuration. When using its Leica front-facing camera, the device can automatically detect whether a user is taking a selfie or an adaptive selfie with multiple people. If the device detects an adaptive selfie, it switches to wide-angle mode.

Both devices use a new depth-of-field algorithm bokeh to create sharper, clearer and more vivid colors, while the background of images remains elegantly blurred or out-of-focus.

Highlights is a feature co-developed with GoPro, which is a local picture technology generates photo albums based on people, places, and events, as well as auto-generates video stories with rich templates and advanced editing features integrating GoPro’s Quik app.

Both Huawei P10 and P10 Plus have a 3,200mAh and a 3,750mAh battery respectively, which supports SuperCharge technology (5V/4.5A).

Additionally, EMUI 5.1 also been introduced in the new P10 series, which comes with UX improvements, performance optimization, and several new features. Huawei Ultra Response is a new feature which is based on a faster touch control driver, enhancing the smoothness of the user experience.

The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus will come in the hyper diamond-cut finishing (Dazzling Blue and Dazzling Gold), sandblast finishing (Greenery, Rose Gold, Mystic Silver, Graphite Black and Prestige Gold), and high gloss finishing in Ceramic White.

Both Huawei P10 and P10 Plus will be available in Malaysia by next month. Unfortunately, there’s no information regarding the pricing at the moment.
